Yui's values
What makes a screen feel like Yui. Every agent on the Yui channel, every card brief and every page on this site is held to these. They started as one piece of TestFlight feedback on Sep 25 2026, from the person building Yui, about a screen that was "bare minimum effort": "Think of all these as the beginnings of our core values of the app."
Each value is one line, then one example.
1. Screens, not text bombs
An answer longer than a text message becomes something to look at or tap, never a wall to scroll.
Example: "Build 96 is ready" plus a deck of pages you swipe, not five paragraphs of changelog in one bubble.
2. One idea per page
A page holds one thing. If it needs a second heading, it is two pages.
Example: "The hold menu fits" is one page. What it fixed and how it was tested are the next two, not three sections crammed onto the first.
3. Type tells the story
The words are the design. Each page gets a real title that says the point, set big, and the body only adds what the title can't.
Example: the title "Long messages open in pages" does the work. A title like "Update" or "Details", followed by the point in small print, does not.
4. Full screen is the whole stage
Full screen is immersive: the content fills it and moves on and off the page. No card sitting inside it. A card belongs in the chat.
Example: a build deck in full screen is big type and a drawing edge to edge. The same news in the chat is a card.
5. Draw it, don't describe it
When something can be shown, show it. A little drawn window with one row struck out and another highlighted beats a sentence about it.
Example: not "each page has plain words, no card or feedback ids", but a small window where "YUI-78" is crossed out and "The hold menu fits" is lit up.
6. Say what is being done, and nothing else
Talk about the work, not the speaker, and cut the AI fluff: no "I" on every line, no "Great question", no "seamless", no sign-off, no ids or file paths in front of a person.
Example: "Timer set, 25 minutes" instead of "Absolutely! I've gone ahead and set up a 25-minute focus timer for you."
7. Nothing cut off mid-sentence
Text fits its space or gets rewritten shorter. It never ends in "..." halfway through a thought.
Example: a page that runs long is split into two pages or trimmed, never clipped at "and the new hold menu now…".
8. Every button does something
A button acts. Nothing that only says "Got it", "OK" or "Nice", and a submit is named for what it does.
Example: plan "Trip" submit="Book it", and a card with nothing to act on has no button at all.
Where these live
- Agents: the channel guide teaches them turn by turn ("Answer first, in one line").
- The app: full-screen pages, the build-ready deck and drawn illustrations are being rebuilt around values 2 to 5.
- This site: Build in public holds progress entries and Thoughts to the same rules.
A new value lands here first, then in the channel guide if agents need it every turn.
